Skroutz Market screenshot

LAUNCHED: November 2006

PROJECT DESCRIPTION

Skroutz market was an add-on for our price aggregator Skroutz.gr. Initially integrated with the Skroutz.gr layout, it soon became an independent project and moved on to a seperate domain. The goal is simple: an auctioning site that's not a pain to use and targets mostly everyday people rather than merchants and powersellers.

Tools of the trade

For Development

  • Linux. ArchLinux, Gentoo, Debian, Ubuntu
  • Vim. No really; we use Vim. And we pack it with some nice plugins for Ruby and HTML syntax.
  • Subversion was our main SCM for quite some time. But then we fell in love with Git
  • Big fat dual monitors. How can you people live without them?

For Deployment

  • Linux. Again. Gentoo and Debian
  • Nginx as our web server and balancer. The Cheetah of (free) web servers
  • Mongrel: the ruby HTTP server with diet issues.
  • Mysql: a fast and open RDBMS stuck at version 5.0
